You’ll probably have noticed that Advertlets is running ads to promote Singapore as a tourism destination recently. With the Formula 1 Race Weekend coming up, and with thousands of new tourists arriving in Singapore, you can pretty much expect that hotels will be full. So, Singaporean bloggers…roomsDB.net offers you a great way to benefit from this situation and make some extra cash! You could either rent out one of your spare rooms with roomsDB.net’s brand new short-term booking system, or, if you don’t have a spare room to rent out, you can join their new referral program and earn by promoting their new idea! But more about that option later.

So what’s this new idea all about? Well, in a nutshell, roomsDB.net helps ordinary Singaporeans to profit from the big events by helping them to rent out their spare rooms on a daily basis. Once the spare room is being listed in their new short-term section, guests can book the spare room just as if they would book a hotel room! The roomsDB.net booking system will inform the homeowner about new bookings, keep track of the availability of the room and send out booking confirmations to the guests. The homeowner can just relax and see the bookings coming in. And for those looking for short-term accommodation in Singapore, there are plenty of benefits too. Rooms are available on a short notice and most importantly: it’s cheaper than staying in a hotel!

<a href="http://bit.ly/3tCUhJ>

RoomsDB.net has a web tour that describes how homeowners can rent out their spare rooms on the roomsDB.net short-term section and maximize their rental income. For example, homeowners might rent out a master bedroom for 1000 SG$/month in the conventional way. But if they charge 100 SG$ for a single night using the short-term booking system on roomsDB.net, they could as well earn up to 3000 SG$/month! So the system is not just for those who want to rent out a spare room just for a couple of days, but also for those homeowners who continuously want to rent out their spare rooms and maximize
their rental income. Check out the web tour here:

It’s a system that makes it easy for you, and takes care of you – guests booking your room have to make a credit card downpayment so you can be sure they will really turn up. There’s also a scheduling feature that lets you change the room availability for specific days or whole time periods with just a few clicks. You can even set the minimum number of nights required for booking a room. Overall, it is a very clever idea!

But now let’s talk about how you can earn extra cash promoting their new idea with your blog!

If you don’t have a room to rent out, roomsDB.net also allows you to earn extra cash via their referral program. All you have to do is write about it on your blog, include the roomsDB.net javascript widgets if you want – and if homeowners sign up using your referral ID, you will earn whenever a guest books that room. Signing up for the referral program is simple – all you have to do is to enter your e-mail, and your personal referral code and password will be generated. You can then log into the internal area and find all your personalized javascript widgets to put on your blog.

To give you an example of how much you can earn, here’s an excerpt from the RoomsDB website:

“Let’s say the homeowner asks for 100 SG$ a night and within the first month he receives bookings so that his room is fully booked for the next 6 months, which is absolutely possible. The overall downpayments that he will receive from his guests are 10% of the rental price. In this case that is 1800 SG$. Since bookings have been made in the first month after you referred him, you will earn 50% of the downpayments, which is 900 SG$! And that was just earned from a single homeowner! ”

So it surely pays out to take part in the roomsDB.net referall program! And with the F1 weekend coming up, it shouldn’t be too hard to persuade your blog readers that this is a good idea and worth it to give it a try and sign up! Please check the roomsDB.net referral program website to find out more and sign up!

Lastly, check out this funny roomsDB.net promo clip …

So do check out roomsDB.net – we hope it’ll be useful for you the next time you come down to Singapore, or for Singaporean residents – a great way to make full use of your property!

Online security is a growing concern, and is especially relevant to those that spend a lot of time online – yes, especially bloggers. Some of you may remember an incident in 2007 where over 400 websites were hacked , the majority of them being Malaysian, and quite a few of them being blogs. This affected even some very experienced bloggers running on the WordPress platform. Read more here.

Btw, some quick tip for bloggers – if you’re on WordPress, its always a good idea to upgrade to the latest, most secure version – and of course, choose a secure password that consists of letters and numbers.

So…welcome to the internet. Hackers are here. Where are you?

With that in mind, if you’re a programmer, and IT specialist or a network security administrator, there’s a conference called Hacker Halted Asia Pacific 2009 coming up this November that is going to be pretty useful for you. And even management types too (CEOs, CIOs, CTOs, etc) – you should know what your peons are talking about, don’t you think?

And yes, you can get your boss to pay for it. EC Council’s courses are accredited by the government (PSMB/SBL), claimable and they work with the national Cybersecurity council.

CEH? Nothing to say ceh! about…

Those in the security field will probably know the terms “white hat” and “black hat”. And well, if you haven’t – remember Mad Magazine used to have this comic called “Spy vs Spy”? Basically, its something like that – the white coloured spy vs the black coloured spy continually come up with ways to outsmart and defeat each other.

And that’s kind of how security on the internet is like – if it can be created, it can be cracked. And if it can be cracked, it can be fixed. And the cycle repeats.

EC Council is the proud owner of the world renowned CEH – Certified Ethical Hacker certification. Basically someone with CEH certification knows all the things that the hackers on the dark side know, but he uses his powers for good – to defend networks and prevent intrusions. The power of the CEH certification will ensure you do not succumb to the lure of the dark side!

EC Council will make you more L33t

One of the highlights is the workshops, where you will get to “experience more than 300 new lab examples on application security and the latest hacking techniques”. It does sound pretty fun.

You’ll get to learn how to reverse engineer Java, Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight to bypass restrictions, using cross site scripting to steal data (through secretly saving what your victim types) and execute code, as well as SQL, LDAP and Xpath injection. And, you get to learn how to steal passwords, hack Google (yes!), engage in social engineering (hint: sometimes the easiest way to get a password is to ask on the phone, pretending to be someone else), hacking USB devices and spying technologies.

This is serious stuff – as to catch hackers, you have to be able to think like one. As part of the workshop, you need to prepare a basic laptop – and the organizer made it clear that the machines should NOT contain any personal or company data.

You’ll leave the conference smarter than when you arrived.

With speakers that range from those in national security (from the Department of Homeland Security, USA), codebreakers who assisted in covert Middle East ops, to those who work against cyber-terrorism, those who deal with large corporate networks in the Fortune 100-500…

…and even a few that have to stay so low key because of the sensitive nature of what they do that, that no picture of them can be provided – you’re pretty much guaranteed to leave with a lot more knowledge about the threats that you could face as well as handling them.

So do check it out Hacker Halted 2009 at eccouncilapac.org.

It’ll be a valuable experience for you, and one that will make you, and your organization safer online.

Ruumz is what you would call, a social network. What makes this one pretty cool is the fact that it’s locally relevant and has as strong real-world connection.

So how’s it different from other social networks? Firstly, you get your own subdomain! I’m http://joshlim.ruumz.com. A pretty easy way for people to remember your URL. (Compared to the much longer URL I have on another social networking site – www.facebook.com/people/Josh-Lim/579737558).

Here’s us bloggers at the recent Ruumz launch event:

Bloggers At the Ruumz launch event @ Mist Club recently. Some things are best experienced in real-life, for everything else, there’s Ruumz.com…

Ruumz has an easy to use interface that lets you connect with your friends, and meet new ones. The site has a combination of private social networking between existing friends (messaging, photo tagging, shared calendars, Groups to keep in touch), as well as places to mingle with and discover new ones – like, a global chatroom (it’s like a blog chatbox with LOTS of people!), and a ways to search for people that fit your profile, people you might like to be friends with!

For example, if you, want to search for 18-25 year old females in Selangor specifically, you can! Though we can’t guarantee that all of them will be interested or even go out with you…it’s an interesting feature nevertheless

While we’re on the topic – you know how in your relationship status on most social networks, there’s ‘Single’, ‘Married’ and ‘It’s Complicated’ usually? The people who put this together obviously have a sense of humour…in Ruumz you can even set yours as ‘I’m Desperate’ or ‘I’m Easy’. Choose appropriately…

Thanks to the site partners, there’s also quite a lot to get while you’re there – you can buy the latest songs & albums in digital formats from established labels (unlimited music downloads through a monthly fee) and even browse trailers from upcoming films that are going to be released here.

Aside from that, you can also have your photos printed and sent directly to your doorstep, or even compiled into photobooks! From the 30th of March onwards until 30 June 2009, you can have free delivery for RM20 worth of photo printing.

There’s also quite a fair amount of mobile content such as ringtones, wallpaper, games which you can get for cheaper than other places due to unique built in purchasing system which doesn’t involve involve you having to pay high mobile subscription fees. Ruumz sidesteps the SMS purchase model for a neat system of their own…

Ruumz is set to be big as it actually has its own currency, called Blings! (yes, blings!). RM1 is equivalent to 10 Blings! This allows for lots of real-world integration, which we discovered during a blogger briefing session for Ruumz.

For example, while the site is still in beta now, the idea is along the lines that you can send an actual bouquet of flowers to someone you met over ruumz! Sure beats having just ‘digital gifts’.

Bloggers at the Ruumz briefing session for bloggers at Miracles Cafe

Another of the ideas shared was that there will be ways for users to make money from the site through ‘playing DJ’ – compiling playlists of your favourite songs, if others buy them you get a cut! Or even selling photobooks of your own photographs. The possibilities are tremendous as no other social network has such a strong e-commerce/currency system in place.

The ruumz team takes in suggestions and feedback and will actually implement the good ones as they go along – so if you’ve got something to suggest, let them know!

They’ve also got something special for you…

We have some very interesting news for bloggers in Singapore that we’ll like to share. And to top that off, we are rolling out some new programs to optimize earnings further! Read on…

Advertlets Reaches MORE Singaporeans Online, And Our Ad Slots Are FILLED!

We’re happy to announce that Advertlets now reaches over 100,000 online viewers in Singapore PER DAY. These are network-wide uniques – meaning that even if a single online user were to visit 30 different blogs with Advertlets ads installed, that user would only be counted once. Hence this is a very accurate count of our true audience reach through the banner ads installed on blogs.

We would like to thank you for helping us grow so quickly – and would like to reinforce our commitment to make Advertlets a viable platform for all bloggers of all traffic ranges, not just celebrity bloggers. We at Advertlets consider this a significant achievement as not only do we have the reach – we are able to provide more ad opportunities to more (and nearly ALL) bloggers than the competition.

Every month, we have sponsored post opportunities that bloggers are welcome to apply for, as well as ad campaigns that run every day across the WHOLE network. Because, as someone has said before…it’s not one blogger can do, it’s what thousands of bloggers can do – and we believe in putting that into practice!

Sponsored Post Opportunities For More!

Most of you would be aware that we have open post opportunities from SGD25 that a lot of our members can qualify for. Good news – we have a significant amount of sponsored posts coming up, some of which are above SGD100. These higher paying opportunities will be only available to Advertlets Titan members. Login to your account and check your blogger dashboard for details!

Because Your Blog Deserves A Shot!

Got great content, just not the traffic…yet? Advertlets is happy to help. Using our own network through the Advertlets Titan Widget as WELL as some very prominent local Singaporean partner communities – we will be rolling out an extensive program to feature selected blogs over the next 2 months. Contact us for details, or find out more about the Advertlets Titan program.

Yes, You Can Earn From Your Neighbours Too!

For Singaporean bloggers with Malaysian traffic, we are happy to announce (or actually, remind you since it has already been in effect), that Advertlets enables you to earn from BOTH your Malaysian (yes, Johor too) and Singaporean traffic, unlike competing networks that only allow you to earn from one source. Those with a significant amount of Malaysian visitors (above 200 per day) are welcome to contact us for some additional opportunities and earning optimization.

Blog Channel Expansion

We would actively like to invite more blogs which cover the following topics to join us: Parenting, Females, Travel, Photography, Technology & Business. We are aiming to form dedicated channels for blog advertising – which basically translates into more relevant ads, and higher rates for the blogs involved. We are primarily looking at blogs that cover these topics exclusively (as opposed to blogs that cover many topics simultaneously). Please contact us if you believe your blog fits the criteria.

You can contact us at info@advertlets.com with the subject ‘Singapore, Baby!’ if you would like to enquire more on the above items. Thanks!

This coming Christmas, use your blog to earn from a sponsored posting opportunity, and do a good deed by helping people know more about the plight of children in Payatas, The Philippines. This posting opportunity is open to both Singapore & Malaysia.

Description
The landfill in Payatas, The Philippines, is notoriously known the world over as Smokey Mountain. For over 35 years, the smoking dump site has grown to become a stark and heart-tugging reminder of the desperate conditions of humanity.

On a daily basis, children pick through newly arrived garbage to collect material to sell. The earnings made by one child are not
enough to even buy food for the day. Hence, entire families are forced to climb the mountain each day, hoping to earn enough to feed everyone. Children as young as four years old are forced to work in this daily struggle for survival.

In response to the plight of these children, Totedaddy is working with Lighthouse Center For Children Foundation to bring a little cheer to the children this Christmas.

Totedaddy has kicked off with a cash sponsorship of USD 10,000 to enable the children to celebrate Christmas. FusionExcel International has also pitched in a USD 5,000 in cash sponsorship. The money raised will help fund the projects already in place, and help fund additional projects aimed at providing better housing, and a means of livelihood for the Payatas community.

It is hoped that by creating better awareness to the plight of these children, more support can be garnered towards their betterment. Together we can bury poverty!

Post Requirements:
- To link to http://www.christmasforpayatas.com/ as an image url and/or by anchored text
- highlight the deplorable conditions of the children living, working in and around the dump site
- draw attention to the YouTube video, which highlights the situation
- that this is a charity appeal, and that we are raising donations for Christmas
- that there are many prominent supporters for the good cause, from footballers (from both Manchester United & Arsenal!), politicians, celebrities, etc
- Ensure your post caters to your niche and relates to your readers
- anchored text should be bold or distinctly visible as clickable
- Blog must have above 50 unique visitors a day
- Bloggers from Singapore & Malaysia only
- Bloggers are subject to approval before posting. Please e-mail posts@advertlets.com to apply for the opportunity. Only approved candidates will be notified.

Budget & Posting Opportunities
RM35 for Malaysian Advertlets Bloggers
SGD25 for Singapore Advertlets Bloggers

(Extra RM10/SGD8 for Advertlets Titan Bloggers!)
Limit: 100 Sponsored Post Opportunities
Deadline: Before December 15th.

Not sure how to start? Here’s an idea of what you can try for (please don’t copy – this is just to give you an idea)

“With the English Premier League reaching an exciting climax and the Euro2008 football tournament commencing in June, I decided to join an online sports book. It’s much easier to bet online where you can type in you bets and view all the odds live rather than calling up some guy to get updated on prices.

I joined Ascot Sports after being recommended to them by a friend who places bets on their Asian Handicap markets. They are licensed in the Isle of Man in the UK and offer much better odds than some of the dodgier local bookmakers. You can bet on a variety of sports and there are many ways to deposit your money. It was so quick and easy to register and get my account funded. I just filled out a form online and transferred money from my bank account.

Ascot Sports actually deposited a £30/RM190/SGD90/RMB430 First Bet Bonus into my account for being a new customer. Woot! I placed it on Liverpool to win 3-0 tonight so if that comes in, the drinks will be on me. LOL!”

All you need is an internet connection in order to play online. My brother wanted to use my account to place a bet the other day because the cheapskate was low on credit on his phone. I got him to sign up to Ascot Sports via their affiliate program. Therefore by referring him to Ascot Sports I got paid a commission! Online betting is definitely the way to go these days and less risky than doing credit betting with underground bookies.”

Good luck!
