Does Advertlets Charge Transaction Fees? + Advertlets Cheques Sent!
Your payouts
Just so you know, for Malaysians, all the cheques for the August 2007 cashout have been sent this morning by Poslaju. You should receive it within 1-2 days. (As promised, should arrive before Raya). For Singaporeans, you may have to wait a week.
For Malaysians, envelopes are sent via Poslaju (with a big Advertlets sticker on it), and to Singaporeans, via registered mail (look for a HSBC envelope).
Does Advertlets Charge Transaction Fees?
Of late, we have been asked whether it is our policy to charge anything or deduct anything in your payouts to cover our operational costs. The answer is no. Advertlets does not charge you for the cost it takes to send your earnings to you.
In case you’re curious, what does it cost to send out cheques to bloggers? Well, it depends on where you stay, of course:
Peninsula Malaysia: (RM0.50 Cheque + RM0.10 Envelope + RM5.20 Mailing Fee = Total RM6.80)
Sarawak: (RM0.50 Cheque + RM0.10 Envelope +RM7.51 Mailing Fee = Total RM8.11)
Sabah (RM0.50 Cheque + RM0.10 Envelope + RM8.09 Mailing Fee = Total RM8.69)
Singapore: (RM2.00 Commision + RM4.00 Mailing Fee =Total RM6.00)
Yes, its ironic that it costs less to send it to Singapore, although we’re sending it from Malaysia. For Singaporeans, we issue demand drafts (similiar to cheques), which are processed by our bank, HSBC. And for Malaysia, we handle it manually before sending it to the post office for processing. These charges do not include labour (of course, we hire fulltime staff and that’s part of their duties, sometimes I stuff envelopes too myself). It’s kind of fun
Occasionally too, we also throw in Stickers and Badges for free – that costs us a bit more, but its worth it when we see it up on your blog together with your happy faces. Thanks so much for your kind support so far!
When we first decided on how we would send out cheques, we opted for a method that was surer, rather than cheaper. With your interests at heart, we decided that registered mail was the way to go. In the time to come, we will send out more and more cheques, and we have to find ways which are more cost and time-efficient. However, rest assured that your payouts will not be deducted to cover our costs.
Some of you have mentioned that you would actuallyprefer to have payments sent by regular mail because Poslaju/registered mail requires someone to sign for it, so if you’re not at home at the time the cheque is delivered, you would have to collect it from the post office. Sometimes the mail gets returned to us as well even, since it was not collected.
So, let’s conduct a vote: Registered , or regular mail?
Looks like advertlets is operating on higher operational cost. Perhaps you can still sustain the high cost now. But I guess this is a good time to look into ways to cut operational cost. (Better to fix the roof before it starts raining)
Personally, I feel that there is no need to send cheque via registered mail. Since the cheque has the payee name on it, even if someone else got it, they also can’t bank in the money. I’ve received check thru normal mail from many MNC and some of them amount up to few thousand dollars. No issues so far.
Glad to see that Advertlets doesn’t pass their operational cost to bloggers. Keep up the good work Josh!
Hey Josh, it is good of you to put out everything openly esp on the charges and cost it takes to send out those cheques.
id say regular mail.
cheaper for you guys. ‘Surer’ for us cos we will surely get it in our mailboxes. I personally don like going to the post office to collect stuff.
i don’t mind both really. i guess maybe depending on the circumstances, e.g. if Raya or any festive seasons is near, then registered might seem like a better way to go, no?
Aiya… I forgotten to cash out last end month.. Now hafta wait till this mth end liaw.. Wuu wuu wuu.. Ms. Pokai
Josh, why don’t go for regular mail, the traditional snail mail. Kekeke.. Saves a lot on delivery costs. From RM7.51 to RM0.30. Save those kaching kaching, den u can come kuching again. Kikikiki…
regular mail is ok!i don’t want collect the check at post office.somtimes i’ll out station for few weeks.
I want registered mail, you can’t imagine how “careless” is the postman, I don’t want to have any opportunity to lose my cheque
my vote is for pos laju. I know it cost a lot, and I appreciate every bit of it, but its faster and more efficient
but if its just regular mail its fine with me too
josh i think u can make it like let the user choose their own either regular or registered mail ^^ i think register mail is better coz in malaysia if regular mail sometime will missing if missing then u need to reissue a new cheque then very “ma fan” lo
how about September?
i know nothing about the mailing method so i don’t care. what i care is money.
In my place, even mail box would be stolen. So I’m sure that I will choose registered letter for safety purpose.
Maybe we need to have optional columns to choose mailing type in individual profile there so that the default is to be registered unless choosing a normal mail instead. It’s just a suggestion.
Looks like everyone is ok with normal mail.
Perhaps Advertlet can change to use normal mail and pass the savings back to bloggers. (Maybe a party or something?)
Cheers!
I think bank transfer via M2U or CIMB clicks would be more cost saving and efficient?? and of course not mentioning fast…
but if its mail, I think the drafted mail (cost RM2.50) should be okay.. I don’t mind waiting for a week..
Dont worry..i will wait my POS Xpres tomorror….
TQ Bosss……..
Selamat hari raya……..
Wont it be easier if you just bank it in?
It is good for you to lay out what bloggers are getting into when signing up for your service.
good job averlets!
Registered mail it is!
Not cashing out yet though.
oh yeah!!!!!!!!! bank transfer!!! best! i like! instant… secure.. hassle free.
what say u josh?
Express Mail. RM2.50/envelope.. save cost.. wakakaa…
How about direct bank transfer? Could it be possible? It cost nothing, safest and fastest
i like registerd mail. more safe =)
I haven’t have the chance to receive a mail from Adverlets but I will prefer PosLaju since it is more safer! I don’t want my first time with Advertlets gone missing.
Am glad i’m finally receiving the cheque real soon. Yay! Personally, registered mail is preffered. Thanks Josh! =)
yeah~ finally i received a cheque from ADVERTLETS on this morning… THX YA ADVERTLETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^3^ muacksssss
I vote for Poslaju.. Like Wayne, I don’t want my first Advertlets cheque gone missing.. hehehe
Hey Advertlets team, thanks for the cheque…I’ve received it already.
Btw, I prefer PosLaju because its quicker and safer..
Thanks anyway, I updated about it at http://www.peihau.net if you want to view it.
i would prefer to have it send by regular mail… coz its better, since i’m not at home during the day time, and it would cost me even more time to go collect it… and there are so many post office, i wouldn’t know which place they have left it with…
Actually, sending it using normal registered mail or express mail will be good enough. I don’t favour normal mail as it always get lost. Hate it. There is no point to use Poslaju as well as it’s expensive. You can also opt for other courier services which actually have rate cheaper than Poslaju. Using Poslaju is really not wise, the cost is too high.
Josh, just take whichever cheapest option that does not compromise delivery.
Seems like there are equal parts regular mail fans and registered mail fans. One possibility is that perhaps that cheques above a certain amount (say, RM500?) are sent by registered mail, and cheques below RM100 are sent via regular mail? What do you think?
Direct bank/Online TT in is possible too, however, that way there is likely a transaction charge, one that the bearer (you) will need to pay.
We will continue to monitor your feedback, and most likely will go with as goldfries said “the cheapest option that does not compromise delivery”, and might I add too “without passing the burden of cost down to the bloggers”.
All of you have contributed in some way to the growth of Advertlets, and be reassured that as we continue to grow, you will not be penalized with fees as our network grows bigger and bigger. The common sense thing is to do the opposite, and reward you
We are confident that the size of the Advertlets network will continue to grow, as will sales of Advertlets ad inventory (which you provide, of course!). As the network grows bigger, economies of scale will kick in – and it will cost us less to operate as time goes by.

Thanks for your support, love you all! (to FZ: not in that way, haha!)
Hey Josh
Tks for the cheque! Received safe and sound!!
My 2 Cents: .. Since i’m avid Maybank user, why not just do a 3rd Party Transfer via Maybank2U! U Send it for FREE and we get it immediately!!
(err of course it would greatly help if the majority of Advertlites (Advertlets users) owns a MBB account!)
Why don’t just send those cheque via snail mail which will cut down the postage cost ( this is what I did for my dad’s company)
Or direct bank transfer ( Maybank, CIMB…etc.)?
I prefer win- win situation, and way to go Advertlets!
i would say, go for regular mail,
save on your cost and give us more profit!
josh. my next payment. make it bank transfer can?
hmm.. registered of course.. but y not alternative ways.. internet banking and transfer??
Josh: I’ve been reading up on the happening recently. Here is my suggestion.
Let members have the options to choose registered mail or normal mail.
If member choose normal mail, use the savings either for charity or a small token of appreciation for the blogger.
One way to help Advertlets reduce cost would be to cashout sparingly.
So instead of doing it every RM 100, perhaps do it at every few hundred RM or more.
Perhaps you are unware of the existance of Pos Express.
Pos Express is charged according to the size of the envelope, with RM2.50 (standard letter), RM3, RM4, RM5, RM10 and RM20.
The beauty of Pos Express is that the mail arrives the next working day (most area), 2 working days (outskirts / secluded area / East Malaysia) and 3 working days for some other places AND it DOESN’T require the receipent to sign anything. The mail will be dropped into the mail box just like regular mail but yet reaches the receiver the following day like Pos Laju.
No stamps. No envelopes (If you don’t mind stuffing the cheque into the hard papered Pos Express yellow envelope). Cheaper than your current method.
bank transfer will be great! pos express is another.
either way will be just fine.
Hi Josh, I just want to give a suggestion, how about your payment system also support payment for the members via PayPal? Or Western Union? However, I prefer PayPal to Western Union. It can be done more faster, you don’t need to spend more money to post it. I’m Indonesian, and as far as I concern, PayPal is the best choice for me, I’ve received many payments via PayPal and I am satisfy for it.
regular mail is fine, but suggest EFT, haha, that would be more convenient.
[...] Not that much. i have another 100 in my advertlets account but that would be reserved until my balance left another 100. so i would only cash out when i reach rm 200. okayla tuh. this is my first cash out with them. there are stickers only. why not making some sampul duit raya as promotional item. that would be wonderful. or maybe after this during chinese new year, giving the cheques in Angpow envelope. ( josh if you’re using this idea then give me angpow la. ) so thanks for the early duit raya. mueheaheahea. [...]
