Advertlets Bandwidth & Development Update

The last round of server side upgrades as have been completed about 2 weeks ago, and you should have noticed a significant increase in speed when serving ads and processing requests. However, while our server is up to scratch now, our bandwidth provider has been a bit iffy, particularly for international (non-Malaysian) connections.

In our quest to give you the fastest service, we have been constantly upgrading our hosting and bandwidth throughout the past 5 months, and it has been mostly seamless, even from when we went from one dedicated server, to two dedicated servers (which required very significant code reworking and load balancing). Ideally, as we’ve managed to do in the past, the user shouldn’t notice any switch/errors, if anything, it should be just that its faster.

We had planned to switch our bandwidth provider this Friday, but given the problems they have been giving of late (including a physical hardware failure this afternoon that resulted in about 40 minutes of downtime), we are bringing the transition forward to 8-9PM tonight, to switch to a much more reliable provider. Hence, we feel its better to have a short scheduled downtime today, rather than risk a longer unplanned downtime over the next 2 days. As of such, there will be between 10-15 minutes of downtime tonight, as we transition between our bandwidth providers.
