Advertlets - now with Geolocation!
We’re proud to announce that not only do we have geolocation (we can detect which blog visitors / ad clickers are from Malaysia) - we have ISP specific details through our partnership with RedesignMalaysia.com allows us access to their vast amount of broadband research.
So, we are able to offer our advertisers to chance to advertise to ONLY users using Malaysian ISPs (logically, Malaysians) - making the advertising very targeted, and reducing wastage.
ISPs we can detect are virtually all Malaysian ISPs, including: TM Net, DiGi Internet Exchange, NasionCom, MaxisNet, Airzed, Time Telekom, NTT MSC / Arc Net, Jaring / MIMOS (MIX), CNX Solutions, EB Technologies, Bizsurf, and more.
This isn’t the full list - just some of the more popular ones. This also means, that if you wanted to, you could choose to target only TMNet users, or only MaxisNet users, for whatever reason you had in mind.
For Advertisers, this is great because they don’t waste their advertising budget. And for bloggers, you can expect a lot more advertising very soon - as now, we can provide assurance and total confidence to Advertisers that their money is well spent.
I guess that leaves a lot of Malaysians overseas out of the equation. More than 60% of my visitors are still from Malaysia even though I am in the UK right now.

Hi Adam - our purpose in doing geolocation isn’t to restrict Bloggers outside of Malaysia from signing up, but to give assurance to local Advertisers (in Malaysia) that their money is well spent, and targeted at the right people (in Malaysia). I hope that you don’t get the wrong idea. Thanks!

First and foremost, I think this geolocation is a great system that can detect which blog visitors / ad clickers are from Malaysia.
Apart from that, I think in the long run, we can get better results or satistic with this system.
Last but not least, I hope Advertlets will keep on growing and growing.

In future, when this IP address database becomes larger, and we can geolocate more effectively (eg whether IPs are from Kelana Jaya or Ampang)…we can recommend you the best ISP available for your area - automatically, just by detecting your IP and matching it with other visitors in the area. This can be a combination of consumer ratings (manually submitted by the users), and also automatic speed tests of visitors accessing this site (logging in their page load time, area they are in and ISP used) […]
How about if my readers are mostly Malaysians who study abroad? By right, they should get the ads too, right? Since they are not permanently staying abroad. They come back often and most of them come back after they have graduated.
